Positive and negative lead acid battery electrodes are different sizes. The positive terminal is bigger in diameter. So if you have the clamp fittings still attached to your leads it should be quickly apparent which one goes to earth.

In fact it can't be flipped, but it CAN have the circuit-board changed, that'll be £64 to you, Sir.

So now have a complete +ve earth SU pump conversion kit to pass on (ahem) for, what, £15 ? Have put it in the Wanted/Sale.
