#1 S1 OTS Interior trimming - Wooden blocks above wheel arches

Post by neil4444 » Sat May 21, 2016 8:32 am

I have a couple of shaped wooden blocks approx 5" long to fit inside the car above the rear wheelarches but I'm not sure of the exact positioning. Please can anyone advise, provide photos ?
I believe these are to give something to screw the aluminium side trims into but again please can anyone confirm their purpose ?

I don't think they're for the male lift-a-dot fastener to hold the small inner hood flap as the original lift-a-dot on my car was fixed to the aluminium trim with a nut.

Regards,

Hi Neil
They are indeed to support that trim panel which holds the male lift the dot fastener for the hood flaps. They provide easy screw fixings for the side trim panels and pack them out as otherwise the trim panels wouldnt be flat as they would get drawn back.
The wood should be slightly curved and taper to an edge at the top so they slide under the wingtop filler piece which has a rolled edge and overhangs.

The picture below is after the steel trim piece has been added and the top three wood screws fix into the wooden piece, the last one screws into the steel top rail.

The wooden blocks screw to the inner wing by using countersunk self tappers in 3 places.

I spoke to Hutsons further about this today. Their view is that it is a packer piece only & is not there to be screwed into. Below is a picture of an original one in place and the 3 fixing holes for the aluminium panel can be seen below the wood / below the swage line.

Image

This is sort of backed up by the positioning of the original holes in my original aluminium panel, which approximately align.

Neil

The holes on my steel trim panel were all existing as built by Jaguar.
As were the holes in the wood blocks and I re-used my original blocks as they were OK. I suspect that they fixed them wherever they liked
I dont think its that important as long as the trim is secure.
