#1 Radiator fitting problems

Post by Beechbum » Fri Apr 19, 2024 10:51 am

Good morning all.

Thanks for all who helped me last time. T bought an e type substantially complete but missing a few bits. I am still having problems with radiator fitting.
I bought the (missing) top brackets & supports from Martin Robey but as you can see with the rad upright as per photos so the top hose is in the correct position, they appear too long. The bottom brackets & hoses appear to be correctly fitted.
Although the car has Webers I'm led to believe they use a standard top hose
My questions are :
Are there more than 1 set of holes for mounting the bottom bracket to the crossmember?
Should the grommets be fitted through both the brackets and supports as the larger holes seem to indicate?
When upright the rad fouls the bonnet on one side. the bonnewt fits correctly si is there any sideways adjustment on the rad?
Although I could solve this by cutting the brackets down & slotting the bottom mounting holes I would much rather do it properly.

Many thanks in advance.

It looks to me from the photos that the bottom brackets are too far forward. The stud on the bottom of each bracket goes through the large holes in the cross member of the bonnet hanging frame along with the rubber washers. Hope it helps.

Steve, let me know if you need any photos or measurements, my rad is not fitted yet so fairly easy to do.
I wouldn't guarantee those top stays are the correct length. Have you got the little right angle brackets they bolt to?
