#1 Bonnet hinge bolts coming loose

Post by Stephanie Plum » Thu Jun 08, 2017 9:37 am

Had a bit of a moment on Sunday when we couldn't close the bonnet - investigation showed that the near side bolt had come loose.

We've tightened it back up and refitted the bonnet but is this something quite common? We'll keep a careful eye on it from now on but just wondered if it is a 'they all do that sir/madam' type thing or whether we should look at replacing the bolts?

Hi Stephanie

Refit the bolts with new spring washers under their heads. It's likely they haven't been fitted.
It's amazing how many people leave these out when reassembling parts.

Stuart

Thanks both. The spring washers are there but I guess everything could just be a little worn. I'll probably buy new elements for both sides and refit.

Cheers

Sounds like the wrong bit is turning & making the bolt twist out? Is the bonnet moving on the nylon bushes as it should, or is the whole assembly turning inside the frame?
