2+2 Door Stays - refitting
#1 2+2 Door Stays - refitting
Can anyone tell me - Is it possible to refit the passenger door stays on a 1969 SII 2+2 without removing the doors? I am getting tired of the doors shutting on my legs - also makes it difficult to do any work with the doors open.... The stays are readily available (albeit with a nylon latch instead of the original brass) but I am not that keen to do this job if the doors have to come off!

They are easy to remove and replace once the door card has been removed to reveal the two screws in the door that hold them. You don't need to touch the door alignment.

Thanks Graham. Sounds like something I can manage myself. So it sounds like there is no attachment point in behind the hinge; just the two screws in the door itself.

Yes, that's correct. One of the easier jobs on an E type!

The check strap is screwed to the alloy hinge rather than the door
Easy job OK, but there are no screws into the door itself, unless you want to remove the door from its hinge and disturb the alignment - which "Williams" understandably said he wanted to avoid.kgnich wrote:Yes, that's correct. One of the easier jobs on an E type!

Hi Peter
Yes, I did some more research and found a photo of the strap attached to the hinge, not the door itself.
I will order the parts and then have a go at the job. All looks pretty straight forward.
Thanks to all

Finally got this job done, and yes it was quite easy. Only problem was that I had to use the old screws, as the ones supplied with the new door stays were the wrong thread.
But it's nice to have doors that don't keep closing on your legs as you get in and out.
