.. a close up of the rarely sighted SII E type chrome ringed leaper in the wild on an apparently rare limited production run of this great driver centric car ... one of a thousand produced .

We're into another season of E-ventures with the car, and I will happily consider this bucket list item checked this fall. As part of the journey, I'll let the universe point out the next custodian who will hopefully share the same passion for this great restoration with a pretty face to get used as intended.
A private mutually balanced arrangement borne out of respect will mean more than anything else, knowing they will continue to carry the torch much further than I can in this bonus round.
Thx to everyone here who weighed in on making this chapter everything it could possibly be.

Summer in the city... Victoria at Mile Zero on the Trans Canada highway, (Pacific Ocean side) ..

This car is so well behaved, delivering pure bucket list fun on every trip .. I can see why it's easy to get attached to the purr.

If you can appreciate a car this much then you truly deserve each other.
Wishing you many miles of adventure and excitement together.

Thx Stu. This year and a date with a big C surgery in July will produce some clarity about the bonus round and the 'Quality Time Remaining', as someone pointed out on their personalized plates (Q T R). Brings a clean uncluttered sharp focus on moments like the above.Series1 Stu wrote: ↑Sat Jun 15, 2019 10:50 pmIf you can appreciate a car this much then you truly deserve each other.

Dana, all best wishes that the big C surgery will do the job and give you lots more QTR. You've a good car there and I've enjoyed reading about your restoration. May you have many more miles in her.

#189 Re: Original Late E Series II refresh as it unfolds (Aug 1970 Build)
Epilog: What a great adventure it was to have immersed myself in this bucket list item end to end. The car is off to it's new home in Miami, which is more than fitting for the sunshine speedster part of the story.
From the beginning, I was convinced that the best Series II sensory experience was to take a choice of proven design details incorporated in the series up to the late production run and restore it to the best it could have been in context. The emphasis was to do the restoration by appropriately dropping the political lobotimization influences on the design that were beginning to infiltrate all that was good about the package toward the end of the run. The 'what if' a Series II had clean uncluttered body lines, big brakes, ample power, sufficient cooling, great torque and a driver never wishing for another gear on the highway beyond 4th......
Based on the interest at its auction (as much thru the back channel contacts as the public facing ones), it's quite obvious that a lot of folks agreed that putting together the 'best of' the relevant characteristics on a Series II that would involve all your senses has a real following. I would recommend that if you are embarking on a similar journey and are able, that you look for a similar late series II - specifically, the chrome ringed leaper icon, (which number approximately 1000 produced) and go for it. This thread template will work well as a great pattern to follow. Life is short, and it will happily involve and engage all your senses in the final drivability outcome, including the 6th one.
Thanks so much to all those who took the time to join me in dialog on this multi year bucket list thread along the way.

And I can't claim the authorship of the 'Stranglebergs" title, I first saw it in a Peter Crespin post

“The term has been around since the first week of the first Stromberg.”
Aha! A bold claim, Jeff, but how to back it up? Aye, there’s the rub.[(c) W. Shakespeare]. We’re almost into handbags-at-dawn territory....LOL
As the sad git who until now thought he’d invented something mildly amusing, it’ll take more than a sweeping generalisation to prise this tiny lexicological bauble from my desperate grip.
Following the normal rules of etymology, if anyone can show documented prior usage of the word Strangleberg, l will, of course, happily cede claim to the invention. It should be a very easy task for you though, given that those carbs have been on American Jags for over fifty years and maybe longer on Triumphs (MGs too?). Until then the lil’ bugger is mine, all mine, I tell ya!
PS: same goes for the spring-loaded no-tools (usually) ‘five-minute fix’ that restores much of the lost power instantly, reversibly, and for free.
On the other hand, I’m pretty sure a few people had noticed Compact Type A boxes fit perfectly in LWB E-types before I started banging on about them, so I’ll give you that one :-)

This made my day …
The new Owner has the car now, and took the time to pen this email back today:
Hi Dana,
I drove the car today for approx 20 miles.
Let me tell you I believe is the best XKE around the world. Everything functions perfect: The torque, smoothness, power, suspension, brakes steering, the beauty., it is just perfect.
Thanks for let me have such a Jewel, it is just gorgeous!!!!
Have a nice week Dana!!

A number of folks have pm'd me re: the hardtop wall hanging system since I wound down this build thread.. Since I don't come back here very often any more, I'll put up a couple of pictures on how it was done..
It's home grown. Essentially, it's 2 @ 2x2 wood strips laminated together with PL400, cut to length and drilled to take end bolts with pronged T nuts about the same size as the hardtop hold down bracket holes. The hardware for the outrigger safety hangars and the pulley came from Home Depot. The pulley came from amazon.com
The taper at the ends is important to clear the rubber gasket of the hard top. The towels on the front are recommended to distribute the minor load from the small turning effect of the system that wants to rotate the top to keep the center hook from taking the small rotating force as a point load over the winter. The highly leveraged pulley is because I'm old . it's 7:1. The new owner took the system as wrapped in the last photo.

A couple of people have asked me about the ATI Super Damper and accessories including the crankcase Damper Hub, the hard to find three bolt Crankcase Fan Belt Pulley and Crankcase TDC pointer. Unfortunately, I don’t have the backup as the invoices / paperwork went with the car to the new owner, but as I recall, the parts came from Denis Welsh MotorSport…

For those who might be interested in some other work that Owen (Richard) is doing, He rebuilt this XK150 for the gentleman who got my XKE at the BAT auction, whom he met thru me at the time of the sale. Small world, isn't it?
