Oil pressure's a touch on the high side, isn't it?
It was calibrated with a hydraulic gauge, and within 4 psi. The current Oil is a 20/50 synthetic. Also, the engine was blueprinted at rebuild, and I just finished running it for 500 miles on break in oil to mate the surfaces. The pressure relief settles in around 60 psi +/-.

Good eye tho.. Also, with the new rad core and rebuilt fans new otter switch etc., it doesn't break a sweat, so is running where it's supposed to, even on those long uphill climbs to higher elevations . So basically, the viscosity never really thins out.

That's what the Forum's here for. It's a bit like having a full time analogue ECU.....

Summertime dress of the day. The Hardtop is parked, I had a custom tonneau cover made to fit and decided to set it all up in a speedster fashion rather than put the rag top back on.

I quite like the color coded upholstered trim line that the upholsterer came up with for the snaps to suit the cover.

All of this because I find the car more comfortable to drive with the seat set further back than it can go with the soft-top down. I'm a bit too tall and don't like my knees up around the wheel.

Come fall, the hardtop will go back on.

Mid summer check in:

Car runs flawlessly, smooth as silk, loves the open road as well as the twisty parts. 1000+ miles so far.

Yesterday I took it to the annual Victoria Jaguars On The Island show put on by the Jaguar Car Club of Victoria (a bit of a misnomer as many cars also show up from multiple western provinces and the Northwestern USA for the weekend's festivities. It has been a popular event for the last 15 years or so).

It wasn't entered in any of the officially judged categories, but garnered the President's Choice award anyway. Come to think of it, it really is a nice XKE, not only a great road car but a pretty face ..

Dana, a well deserved award. Well done and it's good to hear how well the car is running. Is there still a permanent smile on your face

Since the shell off rebuild is pretty much complete, save a few things like the chrome surround on the hardtop rear window, I will put the completed restoration photoshoot stuff in this follow up thread under restoration stories.

To all those who watched this story unfold, have a good summer.

Hi Dana,
I have been following the restoration of your series 2 roadster. A beautiful car ! I am currently restoring a 69 roadster which I bought 60% completed and I have to research certain areas to find out what was original. I am currently fitting the reverse and license plate lights. Do you have a photo of the routing of the wires inside the trunk. I think they run between the inside rear panel and the outside panel(parallel to the rear bumper) to meet up with the two rear harness running from the front to back. I hope this description makes sense!!!

Regards,
Greg

Many thanks Dana. This is exactly what I required. I wonder why they decided to route the wires so they are exposed in the boot area? They list the two grommets in the parts book which are located near the catch which made me wonder why they would fit these unless they contained wires. Was there any repairs made to the original trunk wiring?

Many thanks,
Greg

Not that I could tell. The wiring looked pretty original throughout. No Accidents, no rust, a very original California car.

The finished boot looks OK and the wires don't show. Not sure what you are getting at ? Couple of pics:

Hi Dana,
Just exposed to the movement in and out of the spare tyre . The e type is not known for the ease of getting the spare out of the boot. Again many thanks for the pics. I hope my car ends up as half as good as yours.

Greg

The hardest part is just removing the floor covering, then the %$# plywood and arranging it all on the side of the road so that it doesn't get messed up too bad. Removing the spare is pretty straight forward, not a real threat to the wiring, IMO. The first part is a pain, I agree. The modified BMW jack does a spectacular job tho.

Just under 2,000 miles, and of course, ask me how I know... Seems to happen with all my "new" cars.. but the BMW has runflats. Convenient, but expensive, unless you are into robbing banks and running thru the spike stop strips at speed...

Mid September update..

What a fantastic 1500++ miles since July. The car has never faltered, starts instantly whether hot or cold, no problem in the mountains or in grid lock traffic in scorching heat, bags of power and torque for every situation.

Here we are at Owen's shop for routine fall servicing, along with another coupe that they look after. Will put the hardtop back on this week.

I just noticed that it has been exactly one year to the day that I first joined the E Type Forum. A most interesting experience it has been, since day one. A great gathering of like minded cat lovers, I should add. The success of my little bucket list project contains the DNA of all who contributed to it's success. Thank you. :salute:

The days are getting shorter fast, nights are cooling things off, leaves are coming off the trees and the hardtop is off the wall and back on the car. Closing in on 2,000 miles of fun filled adventure, it's time to button down the hatches and riminess on the adventure as it unfolded over the summer in a car that behaved perfectly. Highly recommended.
