pure porn! How did you refinish the rocker covers. Powder coating masking off the ribs? did you skim the raised sections?

Skimmed the raised sections. We considered a light milling, but in the end, %$^$#! sanded it. For hours. And Hours. That stuff is hard as the hubs of h.e.l.l. :geek2:

( I throw around the Royal "We", although in truth, it was my project manager, Richard, who really hauled the freight on this... :hammerdrill: )

on the barn find hardtop, we are going to try and save the original headliner as it is apparently pretty much irreplaceable. Overall, it should get out to the body shop to match the car for painting this week. The rest of the bits and pieces are sorted for re chroming, and the rubber seals are on order.

A look at the interior including layering and carpeting - sound deadening black 3M mats glued in with contact cement on the floors, thick grey underlay, then the finished layer...

A little further along..

Behind the seats.. (note the sound deadening 3M inside the door panel on the outer skin. Gives the door a solid feel and pleasant 'thunk!' when it closes. I like it.)

An update on the Burlen SU order, which is on the critical path at the moment. I e-spoke with Andy Barlow yesterday, and he has the new estimate 5 weeks out. However, he had this to offer:

"I have impressed on them the urgency of your case and we hope to have these to you before this date."

Hoping he is far enough up the ladder to pull it off. Fingers crossed.

Concurrently getting the Barn find Hardtop back from "B" for barn to "A" in keeping with the rest of the car. It will end up the same color as the car. We have the unique paint formula already..

That looks great.

Mine looked like that. It didn't look like that after 2 weeks of driving it though!

Ha.. I'm with you on this. First and foremost, it's to be a solid driver, not just a pretty face. I have no pristeen hoarder instincts as far as I know, at least using the last 70 years as the sample space.
Besides, I don't have a trailer for it....... :swerve:

Now to get Burlen to get on and deliver those SU's, and I'll be on my way to the first mud puddle. Do you know anyone at their shop?

Update: Rad and fans are zero'd and like new again. New Otter switch just because. Nice wrinkle finish work. Owen has offered to let me use one of his SU setups from the next scheduled rebuild of one of his own cars until Burlen gets mine completed and in the mail. That will be helpful, as I have to break in the rebuilt engine before the full on summer trips.

Just an update, it's getting close now. Some random pictures of the work as it proceeds:

1. The Original windshield and glass going back in:

2. The gas tank:

3. The SS Exhaust system:

4. Alternator Detail and shield

5. Inertia Seat belts (in Blue)

Owen is Rebuilding a borrowed triple SU setup as Burlen is late on the SU's . Still trying to make the Vancouver show on May 19th. It will be tight. Here is the manifold and the excellent effort on the carb bodies so far.

Dana, all looking great, but have you considered changing the rear lights to those made by MarekH of forum fame? They are LED and include reverse lights. The advantage is you can fit the straight exhaust rear pipes rather than the wheelbarrow ones.

Keep up the good work :yellow:

Other than going to the European Spec Indicators and dumping the awful reflectors /side lights, I didn't. Maybe next time....

Original 48 year old windows and windshield glass embedded markings. The original blended in light tint works great with the dark blue. Seems amazing that they survived in such great condition.

DOT17-M33-ASI was manufactured in Birmingham England by the TRIPLEX SAFETY GLASS COMPANY LIMITED. The dot over the X means it was manufactured in April. Not sure how to decode the year, but it was after 1969 by the mark, so that puts it as April 1970, since the car was produced in the fall.
