#1 Spark plug Selection

Post by DazbodS2 » Fri Feb 02, 2018 9:03 pm

I have just purchased on line a set of NGK BP5ES plugs for my S2, as I was of the understanding these are suitable. I note the plugs fitted are NGK R BP5ES. Does anyone know what the difference is and whether the plugs I have purchased are suitable?

The R means the plugs incorporate a resistance to suppress (up to a point) electrical interference. Unless you have an electronic ignition in your car the non resistance plugs will make little difference although the radio might be more noisy. However it may (in theory) upset modern cars with new fangled electronics...

Chances are your plug caps if they are the champion bow tie types incorporate a resistance anyway in which case the BP5ES will be fine....

I'm a big fan of the Bosch WR8DP - self clean better than NGK and smooth run too. Each to their own!
