Whilst dismantling my IRS, I somehow [and rather irritatingly] managed to dislodge one of the water throwers. I have managed to press the yoke out of the hub, but my press is physically not big enough to press the hub out of the hub carrier. Supporting the hub carrier for this operation doesn't look to be that straightforward either. I have found a firm called Ward Engineering in Colchester who seem to specialise in Jag IRS work, but before I contact them, has anybody had any experience with them? Or does anybody have any ideas or suggestions, or have used a firm for this sort of work that you found to be reliable.

Hi Andy....have just recently done this job.....the hub carrier is an awkward shape but a few pieces of timber is all thats needed to support it......all thats holding the hub in the carrier is the inner bearing.....if you clean it all up first so you can see exactly whats in there you can use a propane(plumbers torch) just on the inner bearing to heat and expand it should come off much easier......Ward engineering has been mentioned on the forum before with members giving good reports....however i recently purchasd a complete bearing set for the hubs and wishbones from them....when they arrived they were not Timken or torrington and the wishbone bearing tubes were not as good quality as others i have seen....so i purchased all parts again from other suppliers......Steve

Great bit of advice.
I was overestimating how far I had to push the hub. Once you'd pointed out that I only had to push it clear of the inner bearing, I realised that my press was big enough after all. Once I'd got it supported properly, it came apart easily. Any idea what the torque loading is for the yoke securing nut??

Hi Andy...do you mean the nut on the end of the splined shaft..if so its in the manual 140ft/lb.....but beware the rear hub is nothing like the fronts...the rear has to be set up useing spacers that you need to measure with a dial guage...suggest you read the relevant section in the service manual...its not complicated but you really have to understand what your doing befor you start.......Steve

+1 for Ward. They did my calipers and handbrake mechanism.
