#1 Series 2 Import

Hello, I am new to the forum.
I am looking at purchasing a 1970 series 2 which I have just discovered is an import that has been converted to RHD. Are there any warning signs I should look for and are there any issues with purchasing a car that has been through a conversion?

Hi Whats your name....basically there is nothing wrong with an imported car that has been have to do plenty of checking to make sure that what you think you are buying is what the car actually is..but thats the same with any should check to see if the details of the car are on a very good resource to use...or you can list more details on here like the reg no...chassis number, model, ect and members will give as much info as possible to help it a private or dealer sale.........becaus of the increasing prices of E types many have been imported and converted.....nothing wrong with that so long as its been done properly.... I'll echo what Steve has said, adding you should look for an experienced E Type owner and/or restorer to have a look at the car for you. Not just someone who claims to know old cars, but truly knowledgable about Es.
Have you looked at any others to compare what you would be getting for your money?

I'd echo all the above comments. The conversion is purely a mechanical exercise all be it with some trim and major mechanical bits to be replaced. The structure of the car remains the same so the same sorts of rust issues apply.
What ever the car be very sure it is legitimate. Check all the documentation you can...V5C and documentation on the conversion. Have an HPI check done. If it is an import there should be paperwork for this. As already said, check Xke data and post any info you can on here. It is almost certainly a perfectly honest car but it is worth being sure...
As far as the car goes the main issue is always rust so get someone whom knows e types to have a good go over the car. Being an import it may be good but not every import is a "rust free Californian car" so be sure it is not a rot box before parting with large amounts of cash.. Good luck and keep us posted.

I like rust free West Coast cars. I was lucky with mine.

Fixing faults is a doddle compared to fixing rust!

Doing the LHD/RHD conversion is not to hard on an e type too. The main safety items are wiring (all visible) and steering joints.

Don't forget to make sure the gauges in the instrument panel were re-arranged to the RHD format as well. Including the legend strip.

Stuart, I don't think the legend strip is different on an S2 LHD vs RHD. Wasn't that just on the S1s?
