I am looking for a instructions on how to change out my alternator with no regulator to one with an internal regulator. What wiring changes are need to be made. I have seen some to buy but is there one that is preferred over another?
Thanks

Steve,
I apologize for no getting on with a replacement. I think I saw it just as we were leaving for an Alaskan cruise. I had a guy rework the old alternator and I am going to try that one first. I am struggling with the way it is suppose to go together but I have to give it one try and if not working I'll get a new one. I am frustrated with the lack of documentation and his rebuild is slightly different that mine ( his Series 1).
I will study the stuff you send and most likely I will have to use it.
Sorry for not paying closer attention.

#4 Re: Alternator rotation direction
I am planning to install a new modern alternator with internal regulator. My 69,S2 with A/C moves the alternator mount to above the center pulleys backwards. So the rotation in that configuration is reverse of the normal mount place (left side of motor). Will the Lucas model alternator, suggested in the conversion post, function properly turning opposite of the one in a non A/C S2 cars? I am thinking, Yes, but need confirmation.
Thanks

I don’t know if it makes a difference electrically which way the alternator is rotating, but you’ll need to make sure the pulley fan blades are the correct orientation for the direction of rotation, otherwise it won’t cool properly.

Thanks Tom
I found the same thing here and with Google. The cooling isn’t a big problem but something to watch.
I’m not going to worry about it.
Thanks

Hi Elliott
I think you would be wise to worry about cooling the alternator. The fan is there to force air through the alternator to cool the windings. Without cooling you will quickly fry the windings.
