#1 Heater controls LHD to RHD
Hi
Wonder if anyone can help?
I am in the process of converting my car from LHD to RHD
I have purchased the new dash panel and glove box, and it would seem the control cables for the heater are now moved to the new speedo dash on the right hand side.
At the moment in the existing set up I have two cables operated from the LHD speedo panel, one operates the heater flap, the other operates the heater control valve.
Question, do these cables need extending and connecting to the new speedo dash panel on the right hand side?
The problem I have is the existing glove box has a couple of heater control levers, but some reason someone had cut the cables so there are just two cables connected to the levers, but the cables do not go anywhere, where would these normally connect?
Any help much appreciated.
thanks
Peter

Hi Steve,
Yes I have printed this off, it's a very good guide, but I cannot see any reference as to if the cables remains as is or not.
Do you know if the heater flap and control valve are always operated from the left hand side of the car?
So for example on a LHD car the control to operate the flap and control valve are operated by the control on the speedo panel, and for a RHD the controls on the glove box operates it?
However, it still leaves me with the problem of what the controls on the right operate.
So basically I have two sets of control, two levers on speedo panel and two levers on glove box panel, I am just unsure what operates what on a RHD car.
thanks
Peter

Hi, I converted mine and the cables remain on the left connecting to the new dash panels once you have refitted the levers etc.
The Workshop manual with the parts listing helps explain the set up. It’s readonably simple if a bit fiddly.
Controls are fitted on the left with just short control cables.

Hi Tim,
Many thanks for that, so the two short length cables remain as is, do you know what the two cables on the right connect to?
Mine have just been cut, so I just have two cables the went nowhere
thanks

The cables on the right are the choke cables. On a car with Strombergs this is a twin cable set up or at least mine was. I converted to triple SUs so replaced the twin cables with the normal uk spec single cable.
I do not think the Stromberg cables will suit the SU set up.
Which carbs do you have?

There is only one lever on the right, it is the choke lever.
On a car with SU's there is a single Bowden cable connected to the lever. On a car with Stromberg's the lever is the same, just the cable has two Bowden cables.
The dashboard levers for the heater and choke are identical for LHD and RHD cars and they do not change sides.

If you convert to tripple SU then as suggested only one choke cable is required. consequently the pin on end of choke lever will need to be suitable for a single cable not double. They are differant
