#1 Series 2, 2+2, when were armrests deleted

Post by CTDavies » Sun Jan 13, 2019 8:09 pm

Hi All,
My 2+2 is 1R41839. I am currently working on restoring the door cards. While searching the internet I found out that the armrests must have been deleted shorty before my car was built. On xkedata I found 1R41824 with armrests and 1R41829 without. Between those two cars the armrests must have been deleted. I‘ve taken a picture here of the original vinyl covering from my car (in suede green) which has no holes for the armrest.

Hi....from the S2 parts catalogue in the knowledge base section.....Armrests fitted to 2+2 from1R35547 & 1R42583.....not fitted to 1R42586.....if you continue looking on xkedata past the numbers you quote you will find cars with armrests...however my 2+2 1R35500 has armrests......so dosnt quite tie in with the above.....have a look at your door to see if they have the the threaded retainer to accept an armrest..I think there was a time that they were deleted but doors with the retainers still used...then they started to refit them again........You may find more detail if you look through the service bulletins in the knowledge base.........Steve

The armrests can be easily added, as the mounting points are still in the door shell. They can also be deleted simply by substituting a plain door card. Through the years, they were often added or deleted per owner preference. Point is, if you're depending on photos of present conditions to tell you where the cut off was, you can easily be misled.
