#1 Engine frame and picture frame bolt diagram
Morning all,
Does anyone have a map or diagram of the various bolts, and lengths etc of the engine, picture and bonnet frames for a series 2.
I visited the paint shop yesterday and we need to bolt up the frames, so that we can fit and shim the bonnet and make sure everything is correct before the final paint.
I have tried my best to research this and found a very good paper by Steve Kemp, but is it for a series 1 and I guess there may well have been changes to the lengths of bolts etc through the series change.
Can’t wait to get it finished and back home!
Any help much appreciated, as always...
Cheers,
Richard

Look in the Knowledge Base.
There are a couple off errors in it but it's more than adequate.

Hi Andrew,
Many thanks - are you taking about Steve Kemp’s ‘mounting hardware for series 1 subframe assembly’?
I was wondering if that was accurate for a series 2?
Are you prepared to let me into the secret of the errors too?
Many thanks,
Rich

S1 and S2 are pretty much the same, if not identical.
Steve has missed out a couple of bolts but otherwise it's excellent. I pull it out every time I'm assembling a set of frames on a car.

Hi Richard
I did this job on my S2 earlier in the year. As a start point I purchased a bolt/washer/nut set from SNGB which was 95% okay.
I had to add a lot of additional washers which were not supplied and when the job was finished I specifically replaced a small number that were either showing too long through the nyloks for my liking or were a millimetre or two too short.
But it was a definitely a helpful start.
I also have detailed charts of every bracket, etc that goes back on with each bolt. This was especially useful for the picture frame/bonnet frame build up.
Can easily email it you if it helps at all.
Photo below is what you get.
Cheers

I Ash,
I have bought a new kit, as a couple of the originals had to be cut off (rounded nylocs).
I’m trying to research as much as I can, so any addition to my knowledge gratefully received!
Cheers,
Rich

If you could send me any charts that would be really helpful and thank you in advance.

Jaguar didn't use a lot of washers when bolting the front frames together - I don't know why - but that's why your kit would appear to be short and of course a washer can take up the last 1 or 2mm you need to fill out a nylock.

#14 Re: Engine frame and picture frame bolt diagram
The correct bolts have a forged-in circular land under the hex that keeps the corners from digging in. Today people put such thick paint on it's crazy and ultimately compromises full clamping stability and joint integrity. So they put washers on to save paint, compounding the non-spec setup and making some bolts a bit short if using the correct long nylocs. Thin paint, primer only under the plates and colour on top after sealant smeared around the assembled joint. Many people would complain loudly these days if they got an accurate factory job

Very good points John / Peter.
I put washers behind the bolt head and before the nylocs so that could have been the reason I had to change a few. But it was only 4 or 5 if I remember correctly.
Richard - email sent with my notes and charts attached.
