#1 Brake fluid bulkhead decal

Post by Monkeyfinger » Thu Nov 28, 2019 2:22 pm

Does anyone still have an original warning sticker/decal on the bulkhead? I'm making up a replacement, and I need to know the size of the rectangular box around it, so I get the correct end result. My car had the 'squarer' style as per the attached photo of the remnants that I had. The height of text would be useful if anyone can help. Some of the replacements I've seen are not a great match for the original.

Not many replies here! Anyway, I've now produced a label design as attached, which is a photographic copy of original Series 2 style, rather than a modern approximation. I do still need help from someone to confirm the length and height of the label so that I can get the proportions correct. I'm guessing the label is around 60mm long, but I'd like to get this correct. If anyone is interested in one of these, then let me know.

Jaguar was still using imperial measurements back then so get the size in inches and I am guessing it will not be in minor fractions. Don't have access to an original so can't help there I'm afraid.

If so you can use the horizontal axis size to calculate the vertical size from your photo. It will always be an imperial fraction so easy to work out.

Perfect Bob, thanks. Looks like it was a perfect Imperial size, as advised.

Final version of label now complete. I've also tried different levels of ageing on these, since it should look more in keeping with my car. For info, printed on 100gsm photo paper and then lacquered for protection. I think a very close match for the original and way better than any reproduction that I've seen. Thanks again to Bob for the size info - these are 2 x 1 1/8".

Hi Richard,
Maybe we need a version that runs along the lines of ‘...brake system is filled with silicone brake fluid....’

I’ll get my coat...

Arrived safely today Richard - they look really good. Fitting tomorrow - will post a picture.

Just confirming mine should be in the same place as the picture in an earlier post - on bulkhead above the heater box.

Original 1970 RHD.

just thought I should be 100% sure!!

thanks

Yes, as shown above. The position is a little random from the factory, but in that general area.
