#1 Hazard dash light not working.

Post by DazbodS2 » Sat Dec 07, 2019 10:01 am

Hi All,

My s2 coupe hazard light on the dash does not work although all 4indicators flash correctly. The bulb works ok and I seem to get a switching voltage in the bulb holder when I check with my AVO. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Incidentally where are the flasher and hazard units located?

Thanks

If there are any earth connections at the dash warning bulb holder or thereabouts, I’d be checking these out.
Nearly all electrical gremlins seem to be down to bad earth connections on these cars!

Might be the bulb holder...the Lucas WL 3 holders are not brilliant. Age and dirty terminals....May be something as simple as the end connection on the bulbs being a bit dirty. A quick polish on an old pair of jeans sometimes solves the issue

Thanks Guys for the response. Still not sure what the problem is but after fiddling with the switch and Hazard Unit it now works intermittently!

I had a similar problem and found that it was a broken rocker switch inside not making constant contact.
Have you checked the switch internals as the copper electrodes can break off or bend especially if the switch action was stiff and this would cause an intermittent fault.

Many thanks Mike. The switch action is very free but checking it was my next intention. Are the switches removed from the front or rear of the instrument panel?

The switch comes out through the front. There are two plastic clips one one either side horizontally on the switch which need compressing to release the casing.
Once the switch is out unplug the wires, you will see the rocker works on a central pivot spindle which you gently prize the casing over keeping it covered and under gentle pressure to ensure that it does not pop and you lose the contents
