Hi, this is my first post as an E-Type owner.
I am restoring a 1970 S2 2+2 Automatic. The original engine and gearbox are not with the car. I have an XJ6 S3 Engine and 2x Borg Warner Model 12 gearboxes. I also have the flywheel with 4 bolt holes for the Torque Converter but NO Torque Converter.
My question is: Which Torque Converts will fit, or am I limited to the xk 4.2 with BW Model 12 Torque Converter only?
Any help or advice will be greatly received!

Hi Rich..Welcom to the forum...this is just to give you a reply but wont help much.....not sure you will get an answer as not many are fitting auto boxes....most pull them out to fit manual....becaus of this there should be plenty of complete auto/bell/ converters about....maybee this is a way to go by getting a complete E setup....not sure if an xj6 box would have gear lever in the correct position or need tunnel changeing....All the best...Steve

The box originally fitted in the auto 2+2 cars was BW Model 8 . I don't know how different the Model 12 was , but I would be wary of a pick and mix approach to the box and/or converter unless you were assured by an expert that it would all fit from a point of view of length, width etc. Perhaps a word with Graham Whitehouse who does all sorts of retrofitting of Jaguars ( particularly using ZF 4HP boxes ) might help

So far, from trawling google, I have found the following (with thanks to a Mr Maury):
"There are two main torque converters for the Model 12. The 6
cylinder is 1200 RPM and the V12 Model 12 uses a 1800 RPM one. A
nice trick is to put a V12 one in a XJ6. Gives a lot more pep off
of the line. The Model 66 has a 1800 rpm as standard."
"The Model 8 [EType S2 original fit] is not hard to get parts for. The Model 12 is a easy
replacement and the BW66 is a great replacement with improved
shifting and lighter weight."
Ill keep updating as i find out more. Hopefully, this will help others in the future.

Just adding some more info.
I found a useful link on how to do the adjustments to the Borg Warner box, although it covers an American vehicle it is in fact the same unit:

Also, the vacuum modulator can be replaced with an adjustable one from an FMX gearbox. Try part number: Part No FVM-7000. Modulator FMX/MOD12.
