I want to jack up the rear of my Series 2. I have a grinding noise that I want to isolate to the rear of the car and I would like to spin the rear wheels. Spin by hand or with the engine to determine where the noise is coming from. The noise is there all the time when the car is rolling. I would like some suggestion as to where to place the jack stands so the rear wheels can spin exercising the drive line to check for the noise.
Has anyone done this? I would like to try it before taking in to the mechanic.
Thanks
Elliott

Put the jack under the end of the radius arm where the large bush fits unto the mount on the body.
Put the jack stands under the rear of the main box sections that runs under the car. Use a bit of carpet to protect the paint.

Hi Elliot.....you can jack under the base plate of the IRS with a suitable timber spreader....then place jack stands under the lower wishbones.....then lower jack.....first check would be to look at the metal covers on the drive shafts that cover the UJ,s in the aluminium hub carrier....Steve

Hi Elliot, suggest that the "grinding" noise is from loose spokes on the wheel. Regards Ralph
