#1 alternator question

Post by spotdoc67 » Sat Jul 15, 2023 8:08 pm

Hi,
I have a 1969 FHC left hand drive car with a/c
I have an aftermarket alternator Cargo 110497.
I can't seem to find out much about it on the internet but it does seem to be an upgrade used in Austin Healey sprites.
It seems to work fine.
I'm trying to make sense of the wiring to the 3 relays behind the nearside wheel.
With this type of alternator am I right in thinking that the 6RA relay is redundant?
It still seems to be wired to something
Can I disconnect it?
thanks

Tom

Tom, I don’t know the alternator you have but have a look to this topic where another forum member converted to a self regulating alternator. It might give you a pointer.

Appears to be a currently catalogued model so possibly contact the supplier?

Now then Tom,

It looks like it has an internal regulator, which means that you’ll only have to connect your two thick browns to the B+ and your brown-yellow to the D+.

If you cable tie the brown-green and brown-purple, and wrap the ends of both in heat shrink, you will not need the regulator set up that is located in front of the near side wheel.

Good luck,
