#1 Pre-cut key

Post by Rafa73 » Fri Oct 20, 2023 9:25 am

Gentlemen,

Thank you for having me in the group.

Can I get a pre-cut ignition key to my E-Type somewhere, by providing the chassis number?

Thanks,

Rafael, from Brazil.

I don’t think that you can.
What year and model is your car?
Series 1 FHC purchased 40 years ago. Courted my wife in it.
Series 1 2+2 when the kids were small now sold.
Series 1.5 OTS in opalescent maroon, Californian car. My retirement present.

Its unlikely - in any case, quite possible the lock has been replaced in the past so it wouldn't help.

Thank you for your input.

It’s a 1969 convertible.

I’m a Rolls-Royce/Bentley enthusiast (I’m new to Jaguar) and I have ordered several keys from Crewe, not just for the ignition, but even for the wheels, and it always worked. They keep the codes on file.

I guess I’ll have to buy a blank and take it with a lock cylinder to a locksmith for him to match.

If you can`t find a new key , you can always buy a new ignition lock which comes with it`s own key .

I just bought the car and it does not have any keys.

In regards to buying a lock, then I’d need a set of locks…

No problem I have an excellent locksmith, he’ll cut a blank for me.

Thanks everyone!

Just found this:

Seller claims the key code is written on the locks.

It would help if you put your car model in the signature area. My 3.8 has the key code on the ignition switch.

I’m sorry, I’m not familiar with the models yet.

All I can say is it’s a 1969 convertible.

Straight six 4.2 will be a S2....your ignition/steering lock key will be a different key to the door locks....Steve

Thanks Steve, that’s helpful information m, as I just bought some ignition blanks on eBay. Now I’ll look for some door blanks. Thanks again!

Wow, lots of precious information on that page.

I’ll read it carefully, and I’ll probably be back with some doubts.

Thanks much!
