#1 Trying to track down 1969 E type series ll 2 + 2 coupe

Post by Andrewsjc » Sun Jan 07, 2024 12:36 pm

I hope this is OK.
My late father in law bought an E type series ll 2 + 2 Coupe from new in 1969.
The registration was PHP 838G
We can see it's not got a current MOT but is still taxed.
I would love to find out what happened to it for my Husband as he has fond memories of himself, Mum and Dad driving it.
We know it was put up for auction about years ago but then it was withdrawn

If anyone know where it is now please get in touch
Many thanks in advance

This could well be a car I looked at back in about 2010.
It was a red 2+2, reg. number was a "G" but I can't remember the rest.
It was up for auction and being looked after by an engineering company "Alan Collins engineering" in Essex (Maldon)
. Alan specialised in all things E Type.
The car was withdrawn from auction because Alan discovered the car had a broken head stud and wanted to fix it.
The owner was long-term sick in hospital. I offered on the car, which was incredibly low mileage, and the offer was acceppted.
The son-in-law however got involved because he thought the car was worth more, and that his wife would inherit when the ill owner died. The sale therefore fell through.
There was then all sorts of legal battles pertaining to the car, and the car was still not sold years later.
Here is a link to the engineering firm I referred to.

Hope this helps!

I only fit in a 2+2, so got one!

You could try speaking to Historics who may have information on why it was withdrawn from the Nov13 auction and, as far as I can tell, not resubmitted to the Mar14 auction as planned. Maybe continuing legal issues if it’s the car Malcolm is referring to. Last change in v5 was Mar16 which could relate to the last change in ownership (although could just be something like a house move). At least you know it still exists 😊

I'm pretty positive now it was the car I looked at. The legal issue was that the car was transferred to the owners son in law, but the auctioneers had a contract to sell it and wanted commission on the value of the car. The car sat in Alan's lock up for years.
The car I remember was a '69 on a G and the reg did start with "P"
