#1 Diff color and white zinc screws

Post by Francis » Wed Feb 16, 2011 10:17 pm

Guys,

Here for debate:

I went looking on the net for the perfect original color for the diff... mine was brownish-orange with the back cover black.

I know that not all cars had the same. So this one guy with a website dedicated to his E-Type said that he used a paint shop's trick and found the perfect match. His recipe was Tremclad anti-rust paint, one part primer rust color (flat) mixed with one part red Tremclad paint. His diff looked great except that his back plate is also orange.

I went to the local Canadian Tire shop, our chain auto everything shop, and got a quart of Tremclad rust color primer and used some Ferrari red paint that I had left over from my days as a Ferrari owner (early 2000's).
I muxed it one to one but found that it was too red so I ended-up with a 3 parts rust to 1 part Ferrari red to get to this result:

The back cover is being powder coated shinny black and will be ready next week.

I also got my last batch of white zinc screws and bolts, nuts etc...

I just got the back of the diff back plate cover with an other batch of black shinny powder coating parts.

You will notice that I went over board with that stuff! Check the square clamps for the sub-frame, yep! I did those too!

Doesn't the diff look great? Come on guys! give me a bit of credit here!

P.S.
I promise that over the week-end I will clean the garage cluther up! (at least I told my wife so...)
