#1 Power steering

Post by DT » Wed Feb 04, 2015 4:12 pm

Can anyone help please

Just rebuilt the front end of my engine after a full car nut and bolt rebuild. The pulley of the power steering pump doesn't line up with anything. The nearest is the alternator drive which I have used but drive is noisy above 3000 rpm. Power steering pump needs a 13mm belt so I assume it should line up with crank pulley and water pump pulley but this will need significant alterations to the mounting. Can anyone advise please and some really detailed close up photos of the mounting and the belt runs would be appreciated. The car doesn't have air con

Thanks

David

Usually , on other PAS Jaguars ( after the 3.8 mark 10 at any rate ) the crank pulley has 2 v drives on it, one for the alternator and one for the pas . I cannot say whether this is the case for the E , but it would explain your problem . If you get stuck let me know because I may have an old one lying around which you could have

Well found my problem. There should be a second pulley on the crankshaft that only drives the power steering pump. Can anyone tell me the rough diameters of the pulleys on the crank that drives the power steering pump? The part number for the secondary pulley on the crank would be really useful and any advice on where to get one

Thanks again

David

I have a S2 with factory fitted power steering and the power steering pulley is the same diameter as the crankshaft pulley. Unfortunately I do not have a part number.

David : I'll go and look in my box of bits .

Edit : sorry, I haven't got one . I suggest you try one of the XJ6 dismantlers such as David Kelly near Wrexham , as I think the front pulley from one of those will probably be the same

Thanks Simon and Christpher

Information very helpful

It doesn't help when supplier and parts catalogues arent the same

Anyway I think I have located a NOS pulley as you described to bolt onto the existing pulley from an XJ

If it is not correct I will follow up idea of xj breakers

Now to find the belt!

Thanks

David

David, if my memory serves me correctly then the PS belt is the same as the alternator belt. SNG Barratt supplied me a complete set of belts last year.
