Thanks for the replies from what I can gather it’s the 3 bolts at the top witch are not accessible the previous chap mentioned about a section being drilled and replaced properly not exactly mutilating it and does it compromise the monoque done a load of work on the car and was just getting it on the road and the clutch has seized on so really didn’t want to pull the engine out thanks in advance for replies in advance

Had just been through a lot of work on the car back axle of new calipers hoses brake pipes etc the clutch going is a real kick in the teeth was desperate to get it back on the road I have a garage but wouldn’t describe it as well equipped what’s the rough costing on someone carrying out the job thanks

Hi.....what is the problem with the clutch...you mentioned stuck/seized.....is it a new one and was it working....could it be the drive plate stuck to the flywheel/pressure plate.....it is possible to release it if so...

(this is not a reccomended as i do not personaly know the poster)

I think first you should ascertain the nature of the clutch issue. It could be simply in the hydraulics (somewhat common on infrequently used cars), or in the pressure plate/disk assembly (much less likely, and typically accompanied by some sort of nasty noises). Hydraulics can be sorted with the engine in situ. If it's the PP/disk then the engine/gearbox needs to come out to do the job properly. Don't even think about cutting into the tunnel.

When you say the "clutch seized" what do you mean by that? Are you unable to release the clutch via the pedal? Is the car stuck in neutral or in gear?

It’s a 69 series 2 fhc had trouble with it on and off for years the car has been laid up for years family keeping me busy etc and moving and renovating houses so the clut has stuck before but with the put it in gear and start it it has worked but a few years ago when u realeased the pedal it just started making weird noises so me and a friend an ex aa mechanic jacked it up stuck it on axle stands and got it red hot and after a while it freed but when we tested it one of the rear calipers had seized so had to drop the axle and fit new calipers pads handbrake Nita tried it again and half mile down the road it seized on again I’ve had the car 27 years and it’s been garaged a lot of the time due to commitments so was looking for advice on what was the best approach it seems a crazy amount of work to change the clutch (engine out etc ) just to change a clutch

Unfortunatly engine out is your only option......easiest way is bonnet off and drop the lump out the bottom...

We don’t remove the bonnet.

Also what is recommended to purchase to do the do the job once and properly seals clutch etc any advice would be much appreciated series 2 1969

You will need a new clutch... (pressure plate and drive plate)...a new thrust bearing....and replace the spigot bearing whilst your in there....also check the slave cylinder for leaks etc....depending on condition the flywheel may need resurfacing.......suggest you start a new thread if you need more help in the S2 section( you will probably get more help)..as we are in the S3 section..... also please add your name and car model to the signature area...it really helps us help you.....Steve
