Hi,
can the exhaust manifold heat shield be removed while the engine is in the car or is this impossible.
At the moment I don't exactly know how to remove the spring and the rear bracket (will it fall down after the spring has been removed?).
I want to clean the engine but with the heat shield in place this is difficult.
I'm glad about any hint.
Best regards
Sven

Dear Sven,
The stainless steel heat shields can only come out from the top. The engine can stay in place but the carburettor assemblies mounted to the water jackets will stop you from lifting the heat shields out. Hard luck I'm afraid.
kind regards
Marek

Hello Marek,
thanks a lot.
For me that's good news.
The carbs are out anyway and the rest of the inlet manifold I also have to take out.
Best regards
Sven

The easiest way to move, manipulate or work on the carburettors is to remove one side as a complete assembly. If you undo the two water housings which bolt into the heads and the twelve screws which hold the six inlet runners and the cross pipes then you can lift the entire lot as a single unit from the car and work on it "on the bench".
