#1 battery gauge

Post by baganz.sven@web.de » Sun Aug 06, 2017 12:55 pm

Dear forum members,

can a battery gauge instrument be repaired?
The pre owner of my car has already disassembled it and the internal wire around the bi metal is burned.

Are there spare parts available (or repair sets)

Best regards

Not really repairable if the coil has burned out. either look for a second hand one or buy new from Caerbont Automotive: http://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/jaguar

You could send it to Speedograph Richfield for repair but it is likely to cost more than a replacement! http://www.speedograph-richfield.com/ht ... pairs.html

Just buy another gauge and swap the faces.

The voltmeter gauge is not particularly accurate as it shares too many other items along its "sense" wire. This means there is quite a large voltage drop before the gauge readout. Read Philip Lochner's thread on the topic.

kind regards
Marek

Hello Marek,

mine is definitly damaged, I have tested it with a laboratory voltage source and it doesn't work at all.
The coil must be burnt.

Best regards
