Replacement gauge faces are available from some of the usual suppliers. However, I haven't seen one with both mph and kmh on the same dial. It is either one or the other.

Hi

These people might be able to help. They do replacement faces and they might be able to do one calibrated in both speeds. Maybe you could buy a blank and have a sign writer paint it for you?

Thanks Stuart
Great lateral thought
I haven't liked concept of decal, but signwriter is a good fallback if Heiler don't have solution

Please let us know how you get on. The polycarbonat dial face they picture does have the full beam light in the wrong place for an etype. I also suspect that their faces will be flat, whereas the original is a formed shape - dished into the middle. I expect this is to allow for the height of the jewels for the full beam, ignition and low fuel lights.

Thank Mark
Will do
I have sent photo to Heiler
Let's see what they come up with
Is smiths still in existence...? There was a period that all speedos in Australia had both speeds when there was a conversion from imperial to metric in the 1970s.
Some of our gen x offspring can't understand why we switch our thinking ( still) both ways between inches and cm!

Michael

SNG and SC both stock kmh versions, I suspect from the same supplier - probably Smiths.

Just thought I would update
In Australia, Howard Instruments in box hill are helpful, as are the new owners of Smiths in the UK.
I recently learned of the inoffensive Heads Up Display (HUD) which is governed by GPS, & can plug into cig lighter or be hard wired.
I will maintain original speedo, & add the HUD, that way dash remains original

Michael

Yup.....use the HUD, and leave the Smiths as is. Best bet. No doubt , somebody can paint up a duel speedo, but I would guess costly, and might appear a bit on the 'busy' side in appearance. Good luck !

SNGB product code = "kphface". Bolt one of these on and yr speedo is immediately kph while the odometer still counts in miles. If you want to change the odometer also, so that it counts in km, you need to change the gear that drives the odometer. How to do this is included in this paper:
http://www.tr3a.info/PDFs/speedo.pdf
I think legally yr not supposed to tamper with the odometer?

A couple of years ago I had my speedo repaired at Speedograph Richfield and asked them to add a kph scale when they were in there.

It’s not by any means perfect, but I find it helpful on my regular trips on the Continent. I’ve tried a GPS HUD and found it useless in bright sunlight, plus the GPS seemed to be reluctant to update on too many occasions.

Thanks John
Nice work on the speedo
My regular driver has HUD as standard, & have found it to be quite good, though I agree that it takes a while to get used to
We can nitpick on everything
