Post by TheDampMan » Mon Feb 19, 2018 4:31 pm

Hi All
Both of my rad fans are turning the wrong way, any advice on the best way to alter this?
Thanks

I don't believe the fans are uni-directional motors, so you should be able to reverse the rotation by reversing the terminal wires

When I had this problem, the terminals on the relay had been incorrectly fitted. One wire from the motor was earth, the other was live. If yours is similar, swap these two wires at the relay.

There has to be an explanation as to why they are running backwards. Chris' suggestion seems the most plausible to me. A careless PO or mechanic is the best bet.

At least you noticed it. Lots of people wouldn't.

Stuart

Thanks all, is there just one relay for both fans and where is the normal location?

I simply must ask......how have you even driven the car , even a short distance, without the car running extremely hot ? Both fans running the wrong way ....how did that happen ? FYI....in the future.....when fans running correctly, you will feel the air if you put your hand behind fan.......won't feel a thing if they are "pushing" air back into rad. The fans were designed for many applications, several car makers. Reverse black and green wires coming out of fan motor, as I am sure you have now done. Happy Motoring !

Yes you are correct it is running very hot, I am the new owner and due to the weather at this time of year only been round the block a few times the PO spent a lot of time/money on the car but never drove it!
so in the process of sorting a few niggles out.
