#1 Headlights

Post by TiltyV12 » Mon Feb 19, 2018 9:29 pm

Hi Guys ,
I am close to now getting my imported USA LHD series three on the road legally in the UK.
What do I need to do on the front headlights to comply with the MOT test here ?
Also if I need to change anything what is the best upgrade parts to fit Headlights ?

Many Thanks Brian Tilt.

Hi Brian,
I used these: https://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/ ... side-light
With the relay mod to the wiring and Nightbreaker bulbs. Much better than the standard set up and almost as good as a modern for night driving.

Dear Brian,

You need headlights which dip to the right. There are plenty of options available as Minis and Land Rovers used the same lights. Replacement H4 style housings which use a digfferent bulb to the original sealed beams are also available.

For the indicators, you need to replace the all-red rear indicator lenses with ones which make your rear indicators to be amber instrread of red.

kind regards
Marek

Isn't that dip to the left for RHD, Marek?

Stuart

Yes, that's exactly right.
This may also expain why nuts seem to get tighter, no matter how much I undo them.

In Aus there was also requirement for the parking lights to be white and front facing instead of the sidelights. I was buying a bunch of stuff from SNGB at the time so I added in the RHD lights with the integral parking lights, SNGB code QRB4698. This was a few years back. Then I got rid of the US sidelights for a much cleaner look.
For the rear blinkers I thought to wire in the US rear orange sidelights. In the end not, I discovered that red flashers are tolerated here. Happy about that, imo the UK design stoplights are a bit unobtrusive.
