The Jaguar workshop manual is very specific over length of chains on an engine hoist...
Front 876mm
Rear. 1,041mm
Does anyone know why? I have a problem with clearance in my garage and won't get the engine lifted high enough to lift out with such long chains.
Cheers!

With the given chain length, when you lift the engine it automatically goes to the correct angle to come straight out of the engine bay with minimal touching, and damage to other bits and pieces.

Hi Nigel,
Have you removed the top frame rail (behind the radiator) as I didn't have to lift my engine particularly high to get it out once this was removed?
Dave.

Thanks Dave
Yep, top X-member out. I’m doing the lift today, I’ve lowered the axle stands on the front of the car and shortened the chains a little so I think all should be OK.
Plan is to be finished in time to watch the rugby.
Photos to follow.
Cheers!
