Cable/Hose

Dear colleagues,

can someone tell me which cable/hose goes through the left side grommet in the trunk?
I have marked it in the attached photo.

Sven,

this hose is connected to a rigid pipe that goes ubderneath the car up to the the air pump mounted on the engine. There is also an expansion tank fitted between the rear fender and the tank.
The aim is to "drain" the gaz generated by the petrol.

ah, very interesting.

Might be my E doesn't have it because it is a german car which doesn't have the Emission Control System used in the US.

Earlier (?) setups had it going to the charcoal canister (under the battery).

Hi,

On my UK car this pipe just vents from the fuel breather tank (by fuel filler) to atmosphere above the rear IRS cage.

I know this as I removed the fuel tank & dropped the IRS last week to do some work & confirmed the fuel pipe routes before I removed things.

Dave, my guess is yr vents been disconnected. Can't imagine any logic that would vent the fuel tank into a confined space above the exhaust pipes and brake disks. I'm believing that all versions had the fuel tank vent directly to the charcoal canister, early charcoal canisters (e.g. mine) had outlet directly to atmosphere, later (?) it seems the outlet from the canister was piped to the RHS air cleaners, as per the parts manual diagram.
Jérôme, the air pump pushes filtered air into the exhaust ports. I cannot imagine any logic that would justify pumping fuel vapour into the exhaust ports?
Both these arrangements (modifications) seem potentially dangerous to me.
