#1 Rear engine mount

Whilst replacing o rings in my selector fork rods I noticed that all four nuts to front drive shaft flange were loose. Also that the clearance between driveshaft yokes and crossmember is only 8mm. If I shake gearbox the driveshaft knocks on the crossmember. The car has not been driven since '81 so I dont know if this causes a problem but the thought of the rotating yokes making contact......
Obviously the nuts shouldnt be loose but please could I have some advice on the clearance?

I dont know whats in gearbox oil but it appears that the leak had almost completely dissolved all the rubber spring seats causing the gearbox to drop......

Hi David,
i'll check mine but this is definitively more than 8 mm. I strongly suggest you change the rear mounted rubber as it might also drive to a failure of your engine front mounted rubber/bracket.
This is quite cheap and quite easy to fit.
You just need to remove the exhaust pipes, the 4 bolts and use a lift to release the pressure on the spring and adjust the height of the gearbox.

Thanks Jerome......ive now replaced the rubbers and clearance is now good! Managed to take mount off with exhausts on......just by dropping front exhaust connection gave enough clearance.
And talking of short cuts heres a tip. If you need to gain access to the top of box why not simply chisel a slit in the cover so you dont need to undo the screws as the previous owner did?

I have a similar problem.
I'm at the end of my rebuild and when I drove it it was banging against the tunnel.
Checking it I realised that when I fitted it didn't have the rubber bush in it at all. Thought it looked odd when I originally fitted it.
Purchased a new bush from SNG. The first thing I noticed is that the hole in the bush is almost 3mm larger than the spacer. Incidentally I have 2 of them. Are there meant to be, book says only one. Each one is 25mm long. One appears to be too short and 2 too long.
Also the bottom washer I'm suspicious of. It has a 13mm hole and 41mm o/d, 3.25mm thick. Is this correct?
