#1 Gearbox cover - series 3 ?

Post by E-typeguy » Fri May 18, 2018 6:26 pm

Gents,

This was sold to me as a Series 3 Gearbox cover. On receipt, my feelings say otherwise.
I am in the process of a Series 3 auto to manual conversion. Could one of you all please tell me if I am correct ? I would appreciate the help. Thank you!

Does a manual gearbox cover fit the auto transmission tunnel which is a bit wider than the manual.

I also did a conversion and was sent a fibreglass version that fits the auto tunnel but the top where the gear lever comes out at the top.

Hi Gary,

It seems to be short. I was told it was a Series 3 cover but I think not.
Its made out of sheetmetal which I guess is a plus for a earlier car.

From the SNGB site a cover for S3 manual I would think the originals are metal but this repro is fibreglass

Hello Gary,
The transmission tunnel of an Auto and Manual are the same for an S3. Only the Tunnel Top Cover is different.

Hello Wes,
The Gearbox Cover shown in your picture is not from an S3. Following are picture of a correct S3 Gearbox Cover. The Fibre Glass units from SNG Barratt and others are a rubbish fit and require quite a bit of work to have them fit reasonably.

Thank you very much for the clarification. The photos are a huge help.
I will be sending this one back to the seller.
