26 mpg? Jeez, my completely stock '72 S3 OTS has never returned more than 17 mpg, even on a sedate run.

Hi why it does so well is a combination of the vac advance on the distributor the SU carbs and the 2.88 diff plus the rebuilt engine as the SU carbs are brand new and haven't got all the parts to go wrong like the strombergs i remember back in the early eighties when i set up my repair garage i got nearly new vauxhall chevettes and viva,s with single strombergs on they were very unreliable never mind nearly 50 years old best place for strombergs is on the shelf ready to give to next owner if he wants originality
