#1 fuel pump

Dear colleagues,
again I'm confused about my E.
Today I have tested the fuel pump of my E V12.
The body has two markings: Top and Out (in this picture on the top of the die cast body, below the sheet metal dome). I thought that out means that "out" is the outlet port that has to be connected with pipes to the carburettors and that the port below is the inlet which will be connected to the tank.
But my pump works the other way around.
Out has to be connected to the Tank an the lower port to the carburettors.
Might be the pre owner has assembled it in a wrong way.
best regards
Sven
