Hi all

I'm struggling to get the distributor off my motor. I have the SNG Barratt electronic ignition. I cannot get the rotor arm off and cannot get any purchase with an Allen key on the screws through the clear plastic cover.

Is it normal on this system that the rotor arm won't come off?

Any suggestions how to get distributor off greatly appreciated.

Hi Nigel,
The rotor arm can be tight, especially if its not been off for a while but if you keep working at it it should eventually just pull straight off.

Thanks for your replies.

With Adrian`s feedback, a screwdriver and a little DW40 I've been able to prise the rotor arm off.

Still no further with the dizzie though. Metric 5mm seems to be the size that fits best but I have mislaid my imperial set of Allen keys whilst the garage is being insulated so haven't yet tried them.

For now I'm concentrating on the garage, once that's done I'll return to the rebuild in the warm.

Nigel - I don't have access to my 72 Series III so I stand to be corrected, BUT I have pretty sure the Allen head screws/bolts are SAE.
