#1 FUEL FILTER

Post by madjack4 » Sat Feb 23, 2019 8:37 pm

Hi a warning about fuel filters i got let yesterday the engine just lost power out of the blue i stopped restarted it ran for 2 mins then stopped again i nursed it home stopping leaving it for 5 min s then restating it for about 2mins about 200yards at a time. Today checked through fuel system fuel filter was new 12months ago it looked clean through glass bowl fuel was getting to bowl but not coming out removed filter tried to blow through it blocked solid but looked spotless ? another sub standard part that could have caused a big problem had i been far away done away with it and fitted a vauxhall in line filter

just an FYI. if you are talking about the C28080 style modern replacement filters they fill from the inside and therefore all the crud will never be visible from the glass bowl. do some searches and you will find replacements that mimc the original style, for Ex. a Wix 33034. (assuming you have a S1 or S2 car)
but you will need to research the tricks of getting the seal at the top to work properly.

so I will have to say, sounds like the filter you had did exactly as designed.

Precisely.

What worries me more is the fact that the filter was so heavily blocked after only a year. Perhaps some investigative and cleaning work is called for?

Hi it was not blocked it had collapsed in its self i put air line on it it was clean but the filter material had deteriorated so no fuel would pass through it just poor quality filter
