Hello,

I already have a Moto-Lita steering Wheel on my E-Type V12, but would like to upgrade to a 14" Moto-Lita steering Wheel with T-spokes = original design and rivets.

I have seen that Moto-Lita offers a thicker Wood rim version. How thick is this and who can give me opinions and experiences?

I have attached a pic of the thin = normal Moto-Lita E-Type steering wheel + of a thick Moto-Lita.

I can imagine that the thick one feels much better when driving, but it does not look elegant for me...

Jaguar never used a steering wheel with rivets on the E-Type.

I know, but I love the rivets!!!!
My E-Type V12 OTS has a lot of modifications like 16" wire wheels, Weber's, AJ6 TT exhaust, Audio upgrade, lower suspension, stiffer adjustable dampers with stiffer torsion bars, front and rear anti roll bars etc...

It is my car and I must like it

Who has experiences with thicker steering wheels?

Hi Carlos.....i saw and felt the thicker steering wheels at a show last year.....yes they feel very nice.....just like a modern car...but they look just like in your photo....the smaller diameter the wheel the thicker they look...its your car so do what suites you....Steve

Do you think that the thicker one feels much better? I ask, because almost all wooden steering wheels feel just fragile when driving and I am searching for a combination of both worlds = good feeling + good look.

At this moment I have a 14" steering wheel in dark wood + rivets, but I prefer the look of the T-Spoke steering wheel and closing the eyes the thicker steering Wheel will feel much better...

Hi Carlos....yes you can really feel the difference....looking straight on the width of the rim looks almost the same but from the side looks almost double thickness......if you just want comfort they do feel very good.....Steve

I have seen pics of the modified 6.1 litre E-Type V12 from E Type UK and the steering wheel seems to be the thicker rim one, correct?

Just to add...two styles of wheel center...6 hole fitting to boss and the larger 9 hole....so you have a choice

I fitted the 14" E-type Moto Lita copy to my Series three and it firmed up the steering and gave noticeably more room underneath, even though the S3 already has a 15".

The rim felt very stiff and is already thicker than a standard thumb-groove S1 & S2 wheel. It also uses the E-type hub and most importantly the E-type steering wheel centre that is one of the joys of E-type ownership. When you sit behind that horn push badge, looking out over the bonnet with the sound and feel of your chosen engine under your right foot, you share with countless thousands of owners and dreamers the joy and privilege of E-type driving.

The fat rim 'thing' has the wrong rim, the wrong spokes, the wrong hub and wrong badge, apart from which it is perfect. If your dream is to drive a TVR Tuscan or a Cobra kit car, it may be ideal.

Is it the T-spoke one or the Y-spoke version?

The pics of the thicker wheel rim that I added are only to see the difference ion the thickness, I know that the design and horn button are NOT the ones for E-Type.

My wish is a 14" T-Spoke steering wheel WITH rivets and the E-Type horn button, but I am not sure about the thickness. In my opnion the special E-Type steering Wheel with the 6 hole boss allows the horn button to cover completely the boss and that gives the steering wheel its superb elegance.

now please tell me which spoke design you prefer for an E-Type: the original T-spoke design or the Y-spoke one? Please imagine it with the E-Type horn push button!

Neither is correct for a E type so choose which you prefer...Steve

Thicker leather rim, but smaller, gives a great feel. Looks stock, but glad to get away from original, way to thin, original wheel. Question of an individuals taste, but perhaps some light could be shed here.......why would anyone desire a wood rim steering wheel in an E-Type that has no other wood anywhere in the cockpit ? Just curious.....it just does not match anything .

Actually most modern high end cars have wooden wheels, but the rest of the interior has touches of wood also. Rolls, Jag, Bentley, Cadillac, etc. But the E-Type has no wood...so just wondering why someone would add a wooden steering wheel, when there is absolutely no other wood. Sort of makes the steering wheel stand out, rather then match, and blend with the rest of the beautiful E-Type cockpit. Curious.

Jaguar decided to fit a wood rim steering wheel in every S1 S2 model.......there is no other wood in them...its just the way they are....it was obviously the design statement of the day.......So to fit one to a S3 would bring it more in line with the look of the other models when your sitting in the drivers seat......Steve

Unless there's a problem of fitting yourself into the cockpit, I can't understand why anyone would want to change the wheel from the slender, large, perfect original, the image that was the front cover illustration on the brochure, with that rim that you want to hold between thumb and forefinger....it is a gorgeous and indispensible part of the whole E type experience, and is almost always greeted "wow, look at that steering wheel" when I open the door and invite folks to sit in.
"Incapable of improvement" is a phrase that springs to mind....

Lets not forget what the S3 steering wheel looks like
