#1 Radiator Small Bottom Hose Concern

I have started the removal of the cooling system to have the radiator recored and fans checked. I plan to replace the hoses with the silicone upgrade while the system is apart.

Water filled the tray, but when I removed the half inch hose on the passenger/left side at the bottom of the radiator, it filled the tray with a red liquid. The hose goes under the engine and not had time to chase it. I can’t find a cooling hose diagram to see where it attaches too.

Should I be concerned?

Hi Toby
The red fluid will be automatic transmission fluid - there are two small steel pipes from the gearbox which run alongside the engine sump then connect to the transmission fluid cooler within the radiator via two flexible hoses. (If you have a manual gearbox then I give in!)
Hope this helps

Toby,
If you plan to go silicone from Samco, a word of caution.
My kit was delivered with 4 incorrect size hoses. It took them 4-6 weeks to get it sorted out. My recommendation is to make sure they are all the correct sizes as soon as possible and not when you're assembling the car on a deadline to get it ready.

Hi Bob

Thanks for the confirmation. I had my suspicions it would be, but don’t recall seeing it mentioned.

Hi Ole

How long ago did you buy the kit? I should get it next week, so will match up what I have removed so far. Thanks for the heads up.

It was beginning of 2018, so they may have sorted their mess out by now. Mind you, not a word to say sorry or anything. Just not a good experience. The product is fine, just not the customer interface.
