Hi Everyone,
I am in the process of removing my V12 engine but cannot locate the front engine lifting eyes. I know where they are supposed to be but on my engine there are none, therefore does anyone know if these have to be purchased and then fitted and if so where do they fit?
Any help will be much appreciated.
George

They should be on the engine - they are located on the outer side of each rocker cover (front and rear) - one lifting eye just an inch or two back from where the cam chain runs (one on either side of the engine) and the rear eyes are located on the same outer side of the rocker covers, again about an inch or two from the rear of the rocker cover.

Hi Gary,

Many thanks for your reply and for the photo.
On my engine I have the back 2 lifting eyes in situ it's the front 2 that are missing I can see on your photo where they should be but I cannot see how they are fixed to the engine, if you wouldn't mind taking a photo from directly above showing the fixings I would be very grateful please. On my engine there is no vacant fixing holes or obvious place where they go.

George,
this picture may give you an idea. It's the RH cylinder bank with the valve cover removed and the cam timing tool installed. To the right you can see the lifting eye. My car has 3. The front LH lifting eye is missing, most likely due to a previous engine overhaul. I think it uses the cylinder head bolts.

Ole,
Many thanks for the photo and yes I can see the fixing for the lifting eye and so I should be able to secure the load leveller to that fixing.

Hi George,
The front lifting eyes are secured to the engine via the two thermostat housing bolts.
Cheers,

Hi George,
This picture may help - early cars had cast aluminium eyes, later were pressed steel - they occasionally come up for sale on ebay.

Hi Bob,
Thank you for the photo.
I have the back 2 lifting eyes in cast aluminium already on the car but I have now ordered 2 pressed steel ones for the front from SC Parts (£7.45 ea).
I noticed in your photo that you have removed the emissions tubing and so have I from where it goes into the inlet manifold and I have blocked the holes where the steel tubing was but I have not yet removed the rubber tubing from the carburettors therefore could you let me know or send a photo of which tubing to remove and how you blocked the entry into the carbs please.
Many thanks
George

Hi George
Emission kit was removed before I bought my car but removal has been covered on the forum before - here for example http://forum.etypeuk.com/viewtopic.php? ... on#p111770
