#1 Trim colour change S3 V12 2+2

Post by Colin » Wed Mar 25, 2020 11:22 am

Hi Guys
My painful restoration of my June 1973 Series 3 V12 2+2 is nearing completion. The car which I have owned since !977 is Green Sand with olive interior. Soul searching as it was I decided to change the colour as I was having a complete nut & bolt restoration. This means I will need to change the interior. I am trying to follow the factory default of the car. I am changing the exterior to a Jaguar colour navy/midnight blue so the interior will be changed to the Jaguar biscuit colour. My question is to anybody that has an original June(ish) 1973 with biscuit interior as to the colours of the sun visors and headlining. My understanding is that the headlining was grey irrespective of interior colour and in my case the sunvisors were black. I read in JCNA that some were delivered with the black sunvisors instead of the trim colour and I can vouch for that as my current olive interior is original with black sunvisors.
Any help appreciated

If it's of any use, my early '72 OTS is Old English White with a red interior, and the sun visors are black. Can't say about the headlining!

Hi Colin
According to Clausager page 145, the S3 sun visors were black vinyl on the open cars and cloth to match the headlining on 2+2s. The headlining was changed from beige (also known as fawn) to grey in Jan 72. With an olive interior original black sunvisors sounds like a cost effective choice by Jaguar unless they are cloth covered.
Does this help?

Hello,

My car is March 72 2+2. I believe the sun visors and headlining are original and are both beige fabric.

Good luck

Hi Guys
Many Thanks for your replies.
It seems all the later 2+2 had grey headlining and black vinyl sun visors. This is what I had in my olive green interior.
As I will be changing the interior colour to biscuit I originally thought it a little odd to have black vinyl sun visors with a biscuit interior. You would have thought they would have used the same biscuit vinyl for the sun visors but I guess cost constraints made that too expensive to manufacture. I have since found a photo of an original primrose yellow later 2+2 with biscuit interior and black sunvisors as shown in the V12 Guide to authenticity. So grey headlining and black vinyl sun visors it is.
Thanks Again
Colin
