#1 Boot Floor Drain tubes - S3 2+2 FHC

Post by Drewpy » Wed Oct 28, 2020 10:37 am

On the assembly stage of my V12 resto, I'm puzzled by the drain tubes welded into the LH & RH areas of the boot floor.
There is a fuel filler overflow drain that connects to one of the two LH tube stubs - see pic - but I can't see what the remaining LH tube and RH tube (close to the tail light aperture) - see other pic- are used for, other than being left open as a possible vent feature?
Have searched forum & usual parts catalogues & sites to no avail, and there was noting connected to them when the car was dismantled.

Any guidance here would be much appreciated.

Hi they connect to the drain tubes at each side of the boot gutter to take away water that gets down the gap on the boot lid to body

As what Rob said - the branched pipe takes water (spilled fuel) from under the fuel filler flap and water from the left side rear door gutter, and the right pipe takes water from the right side rear door gutter - there should be holes at the bottom of either side and if you look from under a small piece of metal pipe for the rubber hose to connect to.

Hi. I believe the 2+2 differs from the OTS and only needs one pipe/drain, with one inlet; from the fuel cap drain. The door aperture drains through a single, central drain by the number plate. I could be wrong, it happens often. The normally supplied boot/trunk floor has all the drain holes fitted, I know mine, which came with the car, did so.

Regards,

Simon.

Thanks to you all for your comments. This S3 FHC has the separate drain tube for the rear door that exits by the rear number plate, and no sign of any internal gutter drains. That is consistent with the comments from Simon.
Great to feel clear about this area now.

Drew

Hi it may have had a boot floor panel in at some time and they haven't blocked off the pipe as boot floor is made to fit FHC and convertible
