#1 Rear light cluster

Post by PAT4126 » Sun Nov 08, 2020 1:24 pm

Hi All

My very early S3 which was sent to the States and has been re-imported to the UK has half yellow/half red rear light clusters.

I opened them up today to give them a clean and found black tape over the inside of part of both lenses. Any idea why anyone? I presume it's something to do with UK/US regulations being different?

Also if I were to/had to replace the lenses any suggestions as to which ones would be appropriate?

Many thanks in anticipation.

US spec cars have chrome housings which have the split between indicator and stop light set vertically. Lucas only ever made all-red lenses for these, so for the UK MOT requirement of amber indicators to be met, both the lenses and housings need replacement. This can be done via the Holden route at a cost of GBP199.99 plus VAT per side.

Alternatively, if you want me to make a custom set of lenses to match the housings you have, then this can be done more cheaply and come with both white LED reversing lights and additional bright red LED stop lights mounted into the lenses.

The choice is yours. It all comes down to whether you want to reuse your current chrome housings or whether you want something different or perhaps just brighter rear lights.

kind regards
Marek

Got a nice compliment on my “Marek” LED brake lights yesterday. Led a cruise, and the guy at the back of the line said he could see my brake lights from 1/4 mile away. Bright daylight, too! The brake LEDs integrated into the reversing lenses are especially bright.

Here we are stopped at a waypoint.

Thanks Marek.

Thanks all.

It seems my lenses are correct but the housing are the issue.
