#1 Power Steering Hose Bracket Location

Post by andrewk » Tue Mar 02, 2021 3:05 pm

Hello All,

I need some help with where the Power Steering Pump Hose Bracket on right hand drive cars is located/attached to?

I've recently had to change my high pressure hose, this and the lower pressure one were secured onto the steering rack with cable ties (well too tight). I see without cable ties or this bracket, the hoses foul the power steering pump belt and having had a look at the parts manual, I've realised I'm missing this bracket.

I'm having difficulty loading a screen shot from the parts manual to this post. The bracket part number is C35778 on page 26.69 of the OTS manual or 31.69 from the 2+2.

Any advice or pictures is much appreciated.

Kind regards,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Greetings from down under, good to hear from you. Here’s some photos, a bit difficult to photograph in the depths of the engine bay!

I have a rad cap overflow pipe running down and trapped between my two pipes, so don’t be put off by the thin black rubber pipe. The Union on top of the rack in the picture is the LH of the two and the bracket mounts by the LH rack Mount. The parts manual photo is a good representation of shape.

Regards,

Simon.

Hi Andrew,
Another couple of photos to add to Simon's. I can unbox the rack and take more pics if you need any.

Dear Simon & Bob,

This is excellent - all makes sense now and clearly shows where the bracket goes, thank you both so much !

Bob, no need for the extra pictures.

I now have the bracket, so will be under the car later.

Guys, is there anything else holding/stabilising the pipes at the other (pinion) end?

Thanks once again,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,

There was nothing specifically locating the pinion end of the hoses on my car, but I did find that adjustment of the angle that the pipes had was advisable on fitting. To achieve this, simply fit the unions, but not too tightly, then manipulate the pipes (including at the end where you are fitting the bracket you originally asked about) a little to adjust for best clearance, then tighten unions and clamp alike. The same was actually true for the rigid pipes fitted on the rack itself.

Regards,

Simon.

Hi Simon,

Thanks for the tips - I got the bracket installed fine, but for sure the pipes need a little manipulation to sit comfortably. Will just take my time with gentle pressure.

Kind regards,
Andrew
