#1 2+2 front seat belts

Post by Pete G » Mon Jul 31, 2023 8:31 pm

I feel sure that someone on the Forum has replaced the original seat belts although I can not find any info. about such.
Can anyone give details of lap & diagonal belts that are suitable, ideally inertia reel but static will do.

Thanks

I recently had the original static lap and diagonal belts in my Series 2 fhc replaced with inertia reel by Quickfit Seat Belts.

https://www.quickfitsbs.com/

Very happy with what they did. Pavel is the man to speak to. He's very helpful.

Years ago I met a guy, who was a car ingeneer at Volkswagen for safety belts and air bags. He immediately told me, that the normal steel aprts of the belt system beside the seats are too long. They touch the 'bone of the hip' if you have a crach and will destroy/crack the bone. He told my to mount a part which is only 9 inch long, that the "locking" can not touch the hip. I hope you can understand me with my poor english.
Sit inside your car and close the belt. If the locking touches your hip, this can be dangerous for the bone.
I found a shorter one in ebay and have mounted it into my EV12 roadster.
This car ingeneer has 'shot' hundrets of dummies in cars against a wall and has checked the damage of the dummies very carefully. Therefor I think his advise was correct.

Woolfi, you are very correct. I have seen far too many inertia seat belt conversions with too long a stalk which means the stalk catch plate is in front of the hip instead of to the side or even slightly behind the hip. Have a look at a modern car and how the stalk fits and get any inertia seat belt conversion to end up with the stalk in a similar position.
