#1 Ignition failure on S3

Post by MontanaDiver » Wed Nov 08, 2023 2:51 pm

I was out for a Fall foliage tour several weeks ago and noticed my tachometer was doing 1000 rpm swings. When I got my jag home and parked it, it wouldn’t restart. After leaving it to cool down it restarted. Drove her one more time this past week, waited for the snow to leave and she did it again. Checked the normal things, power at the coil, connections at the resistor and amplifier. When I removed the cap, both the rotor and cap appeared ok, other than the coil contact was hanging down 1/16”. Ohm meter revealed that the connection was bad unless the rotor contact post was depressed flush.
Replaced both cap and rotor with my spare set that EVERYONE on this forum recommended that I keep a spare set with me.
Thank you to all you gear heads, she is running!

A very satisfying result.

Don't forget to replace the spares for next time it happens.
