Is there a shim required between the steering arm and the vertical link (stub axle carrier)?

There are shims C27177/x shown in the Parts Manual, but I'm pretty sure these are for centering the brake caliper.
I'm not sure if I've seen shims fitted between the steering arm and the stub axle, but I only have experience with S1 and S2 cars.

As Andrew mentions above..the parts catalogue is you friend..the drawings dosnt show shims (only caliper mount bolt shims)...the section in the service manual refering to removeing/refitting the steering arm also covers the calipers and mentions shims....I think the shims are for the latter....Steve

Thanks for both of your replies. I have the same sketch as posted but it doesn’t show the bolt that attaches the steering arm to the vertical link. Reading the appropriate section in my manual again, I think I have misread it. As you noted the shims are only for centring the caliper on the discs.

Sorry about the late post so you may have sorted this
The shims go between the steering arm and the caliper body to stop the steering arm being stressed by bending as the bolts are tightened
First nip up the bolt through the caliper to Vertical Link/stub axle carrier and then the steering arm to vertical link/stub axle carrier
The third bolt goes through the other end of the steering arm and then the caliper
- Dont nip it up
- you should see a gap between the steering arm and caliper and this is the gap which needs shimming
- it should be evident that if you tighten this third bolt the steering arm would be stressed by bending it to close the gap. Hence the need for shims!
