#1 Misfire hunt!!!

Post by Ikebaddog » Sun Jan 28, 2024 12:57 pm

Hi all, over the past year or so I’ve been chasing a misfire on my 1971 series 3, new leads, plugs and SNG Barrett ignition system fitted, I’ve just noticed that on the near side pair of carbs, if I spray some carb cleaner around the gasket area when idling it pick up revs …. On the off side carbs, no difference at all, I suspect I may have a leak on both intakes, would this cause a misfire, tbh the car starts easily, but is just a bit lumpy??

In any event I would replace the leaky gasket first and also check the spark plugs on that side to possibly identify lean running. Not sure though whether a leaner mixture can cause misfiring or lumpy running but anything is possible.

Agreed, new gaskets on order, and to be honest, the plugs on that bank look a bit white!!!
