#1 engine sealants

Post by MarkRado » Mon Feb 26, 2024 7:46 am

Hi all,
during the rebuild of the V12 I obviously want to avoid leaks and use some type of sealants.

The areas in question are:
- liners to block (Loctite 574)
- head gasket (yes, there are recommendations using sealant there, eg Beere VHT gasket cement)
- general sealant in addition to paper gaskets (silicone eg Teroson SI9150 / Loctite 5910)

What is your experience?

Thank you,
Mark

My experience is that a good pcv system, i.e. one that keeps the crankcase pressure below atmospheric pressure, is the best way to avoid leaks. Other than that, Kirby Palm recommends Loctite 518 between the head and the cam tower.

kind regards
Marek
